Collège Français – This middle & secondary school in the French school board started a flower garden project in 2007, and came to plant in the Allan Gardens Children’s Conservatory. A few Grade 11 students helped in the greenhouse as part of their coursework. In 2008 students came to the greenhouse to plant grains and flowers for the garden beds in front of their school, and also helped lay out mulch around the trees at École Gabrielle-Roy, which many of the students had previously attended.
Nelson Mandela Park Public School – This school has a garden started some years ago by Jean Rehder, a dedicated kindergarten teacher. She has developed the site as a teaching garden for the Regent Park community. Many NMP students came to the Allan Gardens Children’s Conservatory in the spring, and planted a combination of annual and perennial plants for their garden. Last fall Green Thumbs Growing Kids helped facilitate garden art and science workshops outside with different grades.
